Black Mother of Pearl Crown Trapezoid Fingerboard Inlays & Position Markers for Gibson® Guitars

Gibson® first introduced trapezoid fingerboard inlays in the 1940s and the design quickly became one of the most recognizable visual details associated with the brand. The distinctive shape has remained a defining feature of Les Paul® guitars for generations, appearing across both Standard and Studio models and becoming an enduring part of the classic aesthetic.

Genuine mother of pearl is traditionally reserved for some of the most prestigious instruments, including many historic and vintage-inspired reissues. Its combination of authentic appearance, natural variation and premium feel makes it an ideal choice for builders and players looking to capture the look and character of a truly exceptional guitar.

Black Mother of Pearl features a deep, rich coloration with natural variations in tone and a subtle iridescent shimmer that becomes visible as it catches the light. Unlike solid black synthetic materials, genuine mother of pearl has a distinctive depth and organic character, with flashes of gray, silve, and darker tones that shift from different angles. This unique combination of dark color and natural iridescence creates a sophisticated, understated appearance that adds a premium touch to any guitar while maintaining the unmistakable beauty and character of genuine mother of pearl.
